What is your greatest life, artistic, academic and creative Achievements?
This question, I believe, requires a four-part answer. Regarding my greatest life achievement, I will have to say the birth, growth, and maturity of my son, who is 45 and a working actor in Los Angeles, CA. I call him my “Salvation Child” because he has always been by my side through ecstasy and angst. I believe my greatest artistic achievement in life has been creating and establishing my retail website, INSPIRATIONAL EXPRESSIONS, LLC. Although the site is currently on hiatus, while I attend to other duties, I plan to re-open the website no later than October of 2016. As for my greatest academic achievements, I will have to say that being graduated from high school at 15, college at 18, and medical school at 24 was a tour de force but well worth the effort. Also, my tenure with the USC School of Medicine, where I handled a tripartite operation of curriculum, continuing medical education, and the Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences was extremely rewarding. Creatively, I have been published in 52 anthologies of poetry and currently am writing my first work of prose, my memoir, which I trust will be published in its entirety in the near future.
What roles are you playing in transforming your communities?
I take great pride in working with groups to help stop the abuse of humans as well as animals and I contribute substantially to the Wounded Warrior Project. I am a devout Baptist and a regular attendee of my small but energized Southern Baptist Church.
What are your future prospects in your career and your life?
At my age of almost 66 years, I am just grateful that God sees fit to keep me breathing every day. I plan to continue my website and writing non-fiction as well as my poetry.
What is your parting shot to fellow women and girls?
Women and girls of this generation have opportunities afforded them about which I could only dream. My mantra is from the Nobel Prize Winning Speech, which my favourite writer, William Faulkner gave, and if I may paraphrase, “Not only will womankind endure and survive, she will prevail.” Never give up your hopes and dreams. Only by persevering will you make them a reality.
